Posted October 17, 2023 by FCSO PR

UPDATE: October 19, 2023 | The escaped inmate has been apprehended
‼️UPDATE: 10:07 AM | October 17, 2023 ‼️
If you have cameras on 6th, 7th, or 8th street in Apalachicola, check your cameras for sightings of Rutherford! If you see anything suspicious, call us immediately at 850-670-8500.
❗️Update on escaped state inmate: 9:48 AM | October 17, 2023
Franklin Correctional Institute state inmate, Robert Rutherford, is still at large and we believe to be in the Apalachicola area. Rutherford has a warrant for his escape. If Rutherford is sighted, call 911 immediately. Rutherford was last seen wearing blue pants and a t-shirt, however, he may be wearing different clothing at this point.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Apalachicola Police Department, Department of Corrections, and Leon County law enforcement have worked through the night to try to locate Rutherford and ensure our community’s safety. Resources from helicopters to search K9s on the ground are being utilized to locate Rutherford.
Residents are encouraged to lock their doors and vehicles. Please be careful and aware of your surroundings right now.
TIPS should be called into our non-emergency number 850-670-8500.
SIGHTINGS should be called into 911.
